We have 5 people on staff who are qualified Neuro-Linguistic (N.L.P.) Timeline Therapy Practionners (T.L.T.) N.L.P. is concerned with positively modifying behaviour, particularly through psycho-linguistic techniques. Its theoretical foundation draws on a wide range of disciplines including linguistics, cognitive science and occupational therapy. The T.L.T. process allows students and clients to work at the unconscious level to eliminate many types of issues in their past, thus allowing them to move forward toward education and employment.
Three people on staff are trained to "Reclaim Youth at Risk" using the classroom model of the Circle of Courage and to do Developmental Audits. "This is a strength based assessment that identifies a youth's significant life events, supports and strengths, private logic and coping strategies, and establishes goals for growth in the areas of belonging, mastery, independence and generosity." (from the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.) This is a model of positive youth development first described in the book Reclaiming Youth at Risk, co-authored by Larry Brendtro, Martin Brokenleg, and Steve Van Bockern. The model integrates Native American philosophies of child-rearing, the heritage of early pioneers in education and youth work, and contemporary resilience research. The Circle of Courage is based in four universal growth needs of all children: belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity.
One staff member is in training with Gordon Neufeld whose attachment theories are very consistant with the theories of belonging explored in the Circle of Courage.
