YOUTH SUMMER JOB POSTING
Job Title: Field Worker – Two (2) Positions
Department: Treaty, Lands and Resources Department, Public Works
Department
Employment Status: Temporary Full-Time (July – August 2013) Closing Date: June 19, 2013

JOB SUMMARY:
Two positions are available to Tsleil-Waututh Nation youth to work for the Treaty, Lands and
Resources Department (TLR) and the Public Works Department during the 2013 summer (July and
August), for up to 35 hours a week. The candidate will conduct field work for both departments.
Field work for TLR will largely be conducted in Say Nuth Khaw Yum/Indian Arm Provincial Park and
the Indian River Watershed. The Public Works Department takes care of reserve buildings, grounds,
lands and resources. When field work is not available, the youth will assist office staff on
various projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Field Work:
• Say Nuth Khaw Yum Park Maintenance: Tasks associated with park maintenance include garbage
pick-up,
outhouse cleanup, camp site maintenance, signage maintenance, etc.
• Fish Habitat Enhancement: Tasks associated with fish habitat enhancement include trail
maintenance, tree planting, assisting in habitat assessments, assisting in fish stock
assessments/counting, etc.
• Reserve Grounds Keeping and Maintenance: Work under the direction of the Manager of Facilities
and
Grounds on a variety of task, including grounds keeping, maintenance, cleaning, repairs, painting,
etc.
Office Work:
• Read documents related to Tsleil-Waututh’s history, traditional use knowledge, and Aboriginal
rights and title.
• Conduct background research and archive important Tsleil-Waututh records and interviews.
• Assist in community communication and outreach projects.
• Assist with filing and other paperwork.
• Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Willing, ready and able to work.
• Applicants must be between the ages of 15-30.
• Physically fit and competent working outdoors in variable, and sometimes severe, weather
conditions.
• Punctual, reliable, positive attitude and able to work cohesively with a team.
• Strong work ethic, self-motivated and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Comfortable working in and around water (both rivers and marine).
• Comfortable working on a boat (for transport to work sites).
• Comfortable working with grounds keeping machinery, such as lawn mowers, weed whackers, etc.
• Able to take and maintain detailed notes of daily activities.
• Ability to follow direction closely.
• Ability to read and write; read and interpret written instructions.
• Basic working knowledge of MS Office programs and the Internet, or willingness to learn within
an agreed period of time.
• Interested in learning the functions of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation government.

Job Title: Grounds and Facilities Worker
Department: Public Works
Employment Status: Term Full-Time – 1 year, with possible extension
Closing Date: June 20, 2013

JOB SUMMARY:
The Grounds and Facilities Worker is assigned to multiple duties related to the maintenance, repair
and upkeep of TWN facilities, housing and grounds; setup/teardown of equipment; and various
custodial duties. Varying work schedule may include evenings, weekends and holidays.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Custodial and minor maintenance duties on buildings, equipment and facilities.
• Grounds keeping duties, such as collecting & removing garbage; cutting and trimming grass and
other plants; maintaining trails; planting, watering & weeding; pressure washing; sweeping; leaf
collection; and
snow removal.
• Safely operate and maintain small equipment, such as lawnmowers, weed eaters, saws, drills,
etc.
• Minor electrical, carpentry or plumbing repairs and maintenance.
• Move and arrange furniture and equipment; set up and take down for miscellaneous events.
• Provide labor assistance to tradespersons.
• Perform other duties, as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Completion of Grade 12, or willingness to complete within an agreed period of time.
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience in grounds keeping, landscaping or construction.
• Reasonable working knowledge of basic practices, methods, materials and tools used in
construction and grounds keeping duties.
• Previous experience in minor electrical, plumbing, flooring, roofing, carpentry or mechanical
repairs an asset.
• Able to safely operate light duty equipment and tools related to this position.
• Able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and maintain records as
required.
• Able to build and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers.
• Able to deal courteously with the public.
• Able to work independently and to show initiative and independent judgment.
• Basic working knowledge of MS Office programs and the Internet, or willingness to learn within
an agreed period of time.
• Must be available to work flexible days and hours, including weekends, evenings and holidays.
• Must be willing to complete job-related training, including Level 1 First Aid certification
and WHMIS
certification.
• Valid BC Driver’s License an asset.
• Knowledge of Tsleil-Waututh Nation traditional territory an asset.
• Previous experience working in a First Nations community and/or organization is preferred.
• Must successfully pass a Criminal Records Check.

Job Title: Day Camp Coordinator
Department: Public Works

JOB SUMMARY:
The Tsleil Waututh Nation is seeking a caring, hardworking, responsible Day Camp Coordinator to
provide leadership, direction and supervision to the Day Camp Counsellors and the children
participating in the Takaya
Summer Day Camp Program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide supervision, leadership and role modelling for the Day Camp Counsellors.
• Responsible for participating in the day camp activities and obtaining all required forms.
• Implement a balance of cultural, recreational, social and educational activities into the
Summer Day Camp
Program.
• Provide a safe, healthy environment for the Day Camp Counsellors and participants.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of the Summer Day Camp Program.
• Be creative in raising funds for activities.
• Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Preference given to student(s) attending school full-time during the previous academic year
and intending to return full-time next academic year.
• Ability to work in culturally diverse environment.
• Preference given to student(s) attending a post secondary institution in a program related to
child care, recreation, early childhood education or child or youth counselling.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Must adhere to workplace and program policies and procedures.
• Punctual, reliable, positive attitude and able to work cohesively with a team.
• Able to work independently and to show initiative and independent judgment.
• Basic working knowledge of MS Office programs and the Internet.
• Must be willing to complete job-related training, including Level 1 First Aid and CPR
certification
